I have just finished the last in the Brogan family/Ration Book saga by Jean Fullerton. What a wonderful book and full series. I am only sorry that this is the end. This last book has a dual time line of 1945 post war East End London and late 1870’s Ireland focusing on Philomena Dooley (Queenie), her extended family and her long time love Patrick Mahon.

The interwoven extended family dynamics and the hardships juxtaposed with community spirit, despite times of war, is beautifully written. It’s an easy, comfy read with happiness, sadness, tears and joy and a great depiction of family life during those times.

The book covers themes of love, family, deceit, religion, war and historical times all under the umbrella of strong Matriarchy. It could be read as a stand-alone book but honestly, take the time to read them all. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
