I have to admit that I had not heard of this series before. It was the kind of book that I wouldn't necessarily pick up but if a friend had recommended I would have given it a try. So it was a welcome surprise to find that I thoroughly enjoyed dipping into the lives of the Brogan family and especially discovering Queenie.

As it was part of series, I was slightly concerned that there would be lots of little "in-jokes" that I wouldn't quite get! However, this wasn't the case. It definitely works as a stand-alone book.

The parts of the story that I found most enchanting were when we were transported back to Queenie's childhood and the gentle romance that blossomed between her and Patrick. The author drew the characters so well, the story was completely believable and the sense of romantic yearning was palpable.

I presume that this book is the last in the series which would be a shame but I will certainly check out the earlier books as I enjoyed the writing so much.
