I should preface this review by stating that I hadn't realised this was a book in a series, and although I don't think it matters greatly, it probably would have been advisable to have read at least one of the preceding books.

I am a fan of books set at wartime, they are usually very descriptive, and like this book - it was easy to imagine the places visited because of how well it was written. The settings were interesting and richly described.

I enjoyed the characters, but obviously if I had read any of the previous books in the series, I would have had a better understanding of how their stories had developed through the books. There were quite a lot of characters to remember, and their stories were well intertwined.

I liked the story overall, and thought that the drama in the story wasn't overwhelming and again, was easy to follow without really knowing what had come before.
