I've read one of the previous Ration Book series and it isn't really for me. I'm not sure why really as the writing is genuinely evocative and the characters are well constructed; there's just something about the series that isn't gelling with me. Unfortunately I suspect that this book will be the same.
Whilst I enjoyed the First Impression, I fear that I already know where things are going to end up and it is going to be "scandalous" for the time period it's set in. I did find the section with Charlie in Egypt interesting as I had an Uncle and a Grandfather that both served in Egypt at this time.
