This isn't normally a book I'd read at all, but i chose it on a whim after feeling inspred by VE day celebrations bback in May.
IT was certainly am emotive read and wartime Brtain was described in so much detail I really felt like i understood the environment the book was set in. I thought Francesca in particular was a lovely character and i really rootef for her because of how she didn't want to follow traditions! There were so many facts littered throughout that I have learnt and remembered, for example being restricted to two vegetable dishes with a restaurant meal. I think this would be a really nostalgic book for someone who either lived through the war, or lived thriugh the aftermath in the decades that followed.
