The story is set during World War 2 and mainly set in England. There are several characters in the story namely the Brogans family and the Fabrino family but Francesca Fabrino and Charlie Brogan are the characters that I liked the most.
Due to men fighting the war overseas and being a single young woman, Francesca
must work in a factory for the war effort.
Surprisingly, Francesca ends up getting a job as the Italian translator for the BBC Overseas Department and begins a relationship with her colleague, the handsome Count Leonardo D'Angelo despite still having feelings for the married Charlie, her best friend's brother.
Charlie returns from the war injured to his failed marriage and an unexpected relationship begins between them.
The author, Jean Fullerton, has done extremely well into developing the setting as well as each and every character so that you understand them more. I found the book a pleasure to read and the characters were very relatable. I would be looking forward to reading more books by her.
