As has happened to me before, actually more time than I would care to admit, I found out only after receiving it that A Sacred Storm is the second book in its series. I, sadly, feel that this has contributed to my giving it three stars rather than four (although I will revisit my rating if I manage to get a hold of a copy of the first novel in the series, A Mighty Storm).
I can understand some readers being put off by the sheer size (and weight!) of this novel, but if you are already a fan of epic fantasy then this will be nothing new to you!
As this is the first book of Theodore Brun's that I have read I wasn't sure of what to expect, but thankfully the writing is highly engaging and wonderfully engaging. So much so that I found periods of time slipping by silently as I was so engrossed in chapter after chapter of this epic tale.
I would definitely recommend A Sacred Storm - but only after you read A Mighty Storm first!
