Esther lives the kind of quirky life most young people dream of. She goes to school in hand-made Cosplay outfits, lives in a house huge enough to have a dumbwaiter, and has a mother who believes in ghosts and goblins. She's made a small fortune selling junk food to communities deprived of sugar What part of the dream isn't living up to expectations?

The magical bond which used to exist between Esther and her mother is fading. Since Esther's Grandfather had a stoke, Esther's mother Rosemary has been struggling to cope. She's developing new phobias at an alarming rate. They're stopping her from functioning.

Ester has her own issues with social anxiety. She dresses up as hundreds of characters, but she is afraid to learn what kind of person she might be.

I want to know what happens between Esther and her mother. The quirky magical touches make Esther's life different to *most* reader's, but every teenager experiences that moment when they realise their parents can't magic the bad stuff away. I hope the pair renegotiate their relationship, and want to know what needs to happen for this to work out.

I'm also interested in Esther's relationship with Jonah. He mugs her, he makes a fool of her, yet she falls in love? I'm desperate to know what changes Esther's opinion of Jonah.

The cover might be about one of the phobias, or perhaps it hints at the light-hearted, quirky tone of the book. It seems like great summer reading - a bubbly book which touches on some deep issues.
