This book allowed me to see myself in ways I rarely see myself in books.
I'm an individual of many fears, much like our protagonist Esther. To see her fears be so accepted and yet to also see her fight to conquer them was beautiful.
Her story emboldened me as I read it and gave me this great desire to run off an conquer my fears like her, in particular her act of jumping of a cliff into the sea (safely) along with her friends both filled me with fear and excitement, much I imagine like what she felt in that moment. In some ways I was even able to follow Esther in ways I've never followed a protagonist before as I later went coasteering, conquering my own fear in similar style.
Overall, Sutherland delivered another beautifully written book with a gorgeous message about strength in friends and how those you love can empower you to face fears (as Jonah helped her conquer the list of Nightmares).
