To be honest this all felt a little bit "ploddy" and I found it difficult to get any sort of interest up for the characters or the situation. I can see that the author is trying to generate some tension by having the narrator relating what led to her current situation and dropping little persuasive hints about what could have happened. Unfortunately, they didn't grip me or entice me to keep reading.
