First of all, thank you to Readers First and the publisher for providing me with a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The Stranger on the Beach tells the story of Caroline Stark, married for 20 years to Jason, mother to Hannah. When Caroline throws a house-warming party at her newly refurbished beach house, her husband initially says he will be unable to attend as he is working away. However, when Caroline tracks his phone, she realises he isn’t where he said he is. When Jason turns up to the party with a young woman, the obvious conclusion is that she is his mistress. In retaliation, Caroline picks up a young bar-tender named Aidan and spends the night with him. The story is then told alternately between Caroline and Aidan up to its predictable conclusion.
This book didn’t work for me. I found the dialogue clunky, it was hard work to finish, if I hadn’t won this copy I doubt I would have finished it. The ending was so obvious from an early point that it was “yeah, thought so” by the end!
Sorry to be so negative, but this wasn’t for me.
