It's an intriguing premise that should've been capable of becoming a popular new read. However, the way it's written - in first person, and with a casual air to the narration - makes it feel like you're reading someone's diary, and thus there's no sense of threat, or real feeling behind what should be a story that has very intense stakes for the characters from the very beginning.
First person narratives can be done well if handled correctly, but this is not one that's been handled correctly. Perhaps if it had been formatted differently (e.g. as a diary), then it's current narrative flow might work better, but for what it is - it's quite off-putting for something that could've been great.
For the regular thriller/crime fan, would I recommend this? Eh, no, probably not. For fans of other genres looking to get into thrillers/crime? Well, it really depends on where you're coming from; if you're coming from fantasy/sci-fi/horror, etc. - no, I wouldn't recommend this for you; if you're coming from contemporary/chick-lit/historical romance, etc. - uh . . . yeah, you might like this.
But for me, personally? No. This is just a little too casually written of a read for me for something that feels like it should be written more in the style of David Kellerman for the stakes to matter, to me or to the characters.
