The cover hints at mystery but visually cannot convey the complete immersion in the world of crime that follows. The opening of the story is intriguing and the tension develops slowly. The gift left on the doorstep is scary and unexpected and really took me by surprise.

I couldn't put this book down, it is a real page turner. I feared for the health, both physical and mental, of DS Cody.

As I learnt more of his history and the appalling experience he had gone through my heart ached to see him suffer again and again.

The story unfolded at an increasing speed, carrying me along. There were lots of unexpected twists and turns.

The writing style is precise and clear and very relatable. The author has a remarkable ability to draw in the reader. Each step of the story builds tension but remains completely believable but increasingly frightening.
