I'm a big fan of crime and mystery books but I can tell that this book isn't for me. I haven't read the first book in this series and while this book looks like it could probably be read as a standalone, it doesn't really interest me. I don't find the cover design appealing and while I'm aware that the Queen likes dogs, I'm unclear as to how the title relates to the synopsis. The synopsis, with its mention of the referendum, makes this book sound quite modern and although I usually love a good murder mystery, the extract didn't hold my interest.
