I loved reading The Windsor knot, so I was really excited when this came up to read and to be gifted a copy to review by Readers First. This was a decent sequel but I do worry that, being so 'of its time' by focusing on the Brexit referendum and Theresa May, it could be prone to become quite dated. Having said that, at least it wasn't about covid!

If you haven't read The Windsor knot, the story focuses on Queen Elizabeth being a secret detective and solving crimes with the help of her closest member of staff... while the rest of Windsor Castle see her as a harmless old lady, albeit one who surprises them by being quite on the ball.

In this sequel, another body is found, this time at Buckingham Palace, and despite the official channel's best efforts, it's once again the Queen who is on the hunt for the murderer. The story is fun, fast paced and witty but I have to say I didn't find it quite as engaging as the first book, perhaps because the novelty of seeing the Queen as a detective has worn off slightly!
