I realise I'm in the minority but I was really disappointed by this book. I normally love a good cosy crime as winter draws in but this just didn't hit the mark for me. Characters are one-dimensional and undeveloped, the plot is weighed down by too much explanation of who does what at the palaces, as well as descriptions of how to get from one place to another within the estates. Mind you, I'll give the author credit for really scouring the Queen's diary for the time of the book and shoe-horning her knowledge of every event that took place in here. But.....references to Theresa May, early Brexit negotiations and Trumps election feel dated yet not old enough to even get away with as 'historical fiction'.

To me this lacks warmth and humour and for 'unlikely person' solves murder genre both The Marlow Murder Club and Richard Osmans two novels are better reads.
