A Three Dog Problem was the ideal counterpoint to the recent spate of very serious books I've been reading. It's a lovely, amusing mystery in which Her Majesty demonstrates that she's just as sharp and no-nonsense as we've always suspected.

I like the book's funny bits, such as Prince Philip's nickname for his wife, Cabbage, the Queen Google herself on her iPad to find out where she was on a certain date, and the fact that she binge-watched Murder She Wrote while at Balmoral.

And, of course, at the heart of the storey is a clever mystery involving an inexplicable death, poison pen letters, Renaissance art, and some shady dealings in the dungeons of Buckingham Palace. There's definitely a three-dog problem here.

I know a lot of people have fallen in love with this series, which began with The Windsor Knot in 2020, and I can see why. The good news is that the author has promised that another book will be released next year.
