Really enjoyed this except, it centres on Aderyn, 17 year old girl, and newly made Protector of Dominion of Atratys following the death of her father. It quickly becomes apparent there is a divide between those who rule and those who are ruled and that is the ability to transform into birds and fly. But Aderyn has a secret.
Despite the initial gritty subject matter it has a strong YA vibe which is off putting. However there is clearly a lot of depth to the fantasy storyline which is intriguing.
