This first impression was a tricky one for me to judge. I do like a good fantasy tale but I read this feeling as though I wasn't the target audience at all.
The opening was brief, I found I had a better grasp from the blurb that from the short segment we read.The blurb definitely drew me in, the first impression almost did the opposite.
A decent premise though- A land of shapeshifter's who can transform into birds seems interesting but I'm not entirely sure if this is going to be a action adventure type fantasy or have a more sedate and romance-y leaning.
It could be good and something akin to stories of Fae or Graceling trilogy, but seems a little sparse and lacking that flair, from this first impression.
