A Throne of Swans has been marketed as a re-imagining of Swan Princess – I am unaware of this fairy tale so I cannot vouch for this, but there is no need to vouch for this.

It is an amazing story told in the fictional world of Solanum – with different districts and a central court. We begin getting to know our Protector of Atratys, Aderyn. Please see synopsis as per Google:

A Throne of Swans. When her father dies just before her birthday, seventeen-year-old Aderyn inherits the role of Protector of Atratys, a dominion in a kingdom where nobles are able to transform at will into the bird that represents their family bloodline. Aderyn’s ancestral bird is a swan.

I absolutely adored this book, from the court politics to the potential love interest and even the writing! It flowed so well. Slow to begin with but that was a good thing as I was getting settled into the world and it was nice to be eased in rather than thrust right into the middle of it.

The history and the *magic system* was so unique to me, I never thought I’d like a book about birds! Aderyn, the main character was relatable if not a little naive but the growth she experiences is not only realistic but empowering!

I read this with my closest friends and it made the experience more fun! We were discovering parts of the stories and discussing it at length, I would highly recommend reading this with friends. All in all Katharine and Elizabeth did an amazing job and I cannot wait for Crown Of Talons – I may have to badger them for a proof copy before it comes out hehe.

It  was a five out of five star read for me, what an amazing start to the new year!
