A Throne of Swans is an enthralling fantasy for young adults that is inspired by the story of Swan Lake. The authors have created an imaginative world peopled with interesting and memorable characters. The ruling class have the ability to transform into birds and I loved how their human physical appearance still reflects their bird form, like a man from a family of peacocks who has blue-tinged skin and green hair! The story encompasses life and death, loyalty and betrayal, and the conflict between love and duty. Life in the kingdom is explained in a richly detailed way that immerses you in the story, and the twists and turns in the plot keep you engaged right to the end. A brilliant start to the series.
