I actually really enjoyed this book, and have noticed it's got a big buzz about it on social media, which I'm very happy about because it deserves it!
This, while a bit of a cliche with the royal aspect and the betrayal and all those other elements that we see in most fantasy books, still managed to keep me entertained and bring some originality to the very popular fantasy genre. I liked the characters - the romance angle didn't really do it for me, there wasn't enough of a build-up (where was the sexual tension? The stolen glances? One minute they were indifferent to one another, the next professing their love!). I think that would be my main criticism, as even though I know it's a fantasy book, if you're going to include romance you may as well sell it to us properly!
Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I look forward to reading the sequel when it comes out!
