I really enjoyed the magic system in this and found it to be original. The romance plot was good. It was somewhat of a hate to love type of romance. My only problem was about how I felt about her relationship with others in the book.
in the book friends are hard to come by and you see that friends are more allies than anything else. I will say that I did figure out the plot twist at the end. I am still interested in the next book though. the betrayal at the end was very nicely done and was surprised by it. My only critique it that maybe to have some clues about the queen's involvement rather than it being a shock that didn't makes total sense. in the next book I want there to be more information about those who aren't of these royal bird shifting families. the regular people felt to be very scary and I hope that we meet some that are more understanding and about progression. I do wish that the main character's father's habits went into more detail whether than him somehow being a good chemist who was friends with the villian of the story.
