I do love finding a more unique fantasy novel and A Throne of Swans is definitely that! I loved the whole concept of the royal descendants and nobility being able to transform into birds of their heritage. I would have liked to have read more about the variety of birds the people were turned into though and how the abilities were passed on to the children of different bloodlines.
The world building was rich and detailed, I loved the descriptions of the vast palace and the city surrounding it. The novel also discussed trauma and focused on recovery from a childhood incident.
This novel is full to the brim with mysteries and intrigue, secrets and betrayals! I had no idea who Aderyn, the main character, should trust. It was a very suspenseful novel with an ending that has left me desperate for the sequel!
