I'm normally not a fan of historical fiction but the mystery element and authentic voice of this novel won me over.
It starts off strong and having read the blurb, the first chapter works really well in setting the context for the upcoming mystery. The exploration of the theme of motherhood and identity through the character of Caro was a pleasant surprise. Elisabeth captured this struggle really well with a balanced viewpoint and it was interesting to read.
