I love historical fiction, particularly novels set between the late 1800’s and first half of the 1900’s. I felt a growing excitement as I was reading the first impression of this novel. I love books with a mystery to get to the bottom of. I really liked that Gifford moved between the present time for Caroline (1949) and the past. Building a knowledge and understanding of both Caro’s and the houses history. The descriptions used by Gifford transported me to a time long ago. I was left wanting to know more about the lives of both Caro and Charlotte.
