An opening with plenty of intrigue that grabbed by attention.

When I read the premise I wasn’t at all sure that this would be a book for me despite enjoying historical fiction and loving a mystery of any sort. I feared that the book would be overly descriptive and nothing too meaningful would happen. When I read the first impression, and contrary to all my expectations, I fell in love with the prose and stunning storytelling. I also loved the descriptions which conjured up a great sense of place. It’s a book that’s now firmly on my list!
