Historical fiction with a hint of mystery

Historical fiction and crime thrillers are two of my favourite genres so I looked forward to this one. I’ve found this to be a slow building beginning with a hint at what is to come that has me intrigued to know more. I especially like that there are time jumps and so the story is told in two fold.
