As someone who absolutely devoured Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber, the blurb of this book immediately set off fireworks in my brain when I read it. A period setting, an isolated castle, and a mystery surrounding a dead woman. I recently read and loved Otessa Moshfegh’s Death in her Hands, which followed a woman who got gradually consumed by her obsession to find a body after finding a note in the woods. I adored that book and have since been on the hunt for more female centric gothic stories, which play with unreliable narrators and take place in harsh and unforgivable environments, such as the rural hills of Scotland. The first impression hooked me immediately, I firmly believe that every book should begin in the eye of a storm, it was atmospheric and I could see it so vividly in my head! This book is firmly on my TBR and I would love to have a review copy!
