I needed to make some notes on who was who when I first started reading this! As it is a story set at two different time periods and the mission of the more modern period characters is to find out about the Gillan ancestors and others that lived at Kelly castle.
I have mixed feelings about this book as I did enjoy that the storyline wasn’t predictable, and that there was some some depth to the actions of some of the characters and the subsequent consequences of these. But, the pace of the book felt quite inconsistent, so at times it was meandering and at others overly complicated. Although on the whole engaging as you needed to read on and find out the truth.
It is an epic story and has features of a classic work. I would like to read another of Elizabeth Gifford books as I liked her storytelling style and some of her writing was really quite poignant.
