When I started reading this book, I wasn't too sure if I was going to like it, but I was very soon totally engrossed in its pages and enjoyed it so much! The writing is so descriptive and beautiful I don't think you can help but fall in love with it.
After moving to Kelly Castle with her husband and baby Caroline struggles to settle down and finds it difficult to get on with her mother in law. After being given the task of tracing the family history, she immerses herself in documents and diaries from the past. Her search for the truth takes her into lives lived in the Arctic circle.
Alongside Caroline's story the book also tells the story of those who she is trying to find out the truth about, and takes the reader on a journey into the Arctic circle and life on whaling boats amid thick snow and ice.
I really enjoyed reading this book and was quite sad when I got to the end as I really liked reading about the characters lives.
