Tedious

I was fortunate enough to be sent a copy of this lovely looking book by Elisabeth Gifford, I was looking forward to reading this book as the cover looked so enticing and it’s been a while since I have read some historical fiction.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the switching of time lines during the book and I found all the different characters during each period, to be a bit confusing. I tried several times to get into the book and ultimately gave up.

My other criticism is that the endless descriptions of the castle and grounds became a bit tedious for me to be honest, and I would have preferred a little less description and a little more sustenance to the story.

I loved the jacket on the hardback copy of the book though, and I found the colours and depiction of the wilderness of the arctic setting and the ship in the foreground to be beautiful. Such a shame.
