A young woman, now dead, has been drugged and a victim of a non-consensual act. Only Dr. Sara heard her say that. The evidence is her words and a dead woman against theirs. Yet the story takes a much more disturbing turn. Detective Trent, Faith and Dr. Sara know who these men are- rich, powerful, and protected. How many women have been a victim of their crime? How many will they attack before they are finally caught?

This is the first book that I’ve read by Slaughter and the story was suspenseful. The build-up to the intense struggle in the final chapters was absolutely worth it. I liked how every character had a flaw and/or a history and how it reflected in their behaviour. I also engaged with the sensitivity of this subject. Although disturbed by the bluntness of misogyny and its consequences, it is not too far from the reality she made the reader aware of this several times.

However, I did believe that the story who be more of a 'whodunit' mysterious rather than how to catch the criminals. I enjoy those stories more so. Moreover, I thought that something felt too easy- Detective Trent did not at once get caught and it felt as though there were so many easy gaps where they could have. Additionally, I was a little disappointed in the restoration of justice. Although that could be a comment about how society to this day views women who have been victims, the ending still fell short for me. Regardless, I could definitely watch this as a series!
