I'd like to start this off by thanking the team at Readers First for sending me a copy to read and review - it is always exciting getting new books, especially when they're from one of your favourite authors!

After That Night is a truly disturbing and harrowing story that follows Will Trent's partner, Sara, as she finds herself reliving one of her most horrifying memories after a patient turns up in the emergency room after being assaulted. Sara makes it her vow to find whoever did this to her, and soon uncovers a disturbing group that she was once connected to...

I absolutely love Karin Slaughter, I've read a couple of her books now and I always find myself absolutely glued to the plots, and keeping an eye out for her name in bookstores. Karin knows how to write a really sinister and disturbing story that leaves you gripped. That being said, I had never read a Will Trent book so I was a little skeptical to begin with. However, this book works okay as a standalone without too many nods to the past of Will's life, so if you're not 100% clued up on him as a character you can sort of breeze through.

Unlike previous Karin Slaughter books, there were times when After That Night sort of dragged for me and I struggled to get back into the pacing of it. However, these patches were few and far between and once I eventually delved back into the plot I was hooked again.

There is definitely a lot of explicit wording and graphic descriptions of assault in this book, which some readers may find disturbing or triggering so it's definitely worth noting that.

Also, until the last two chapters I was ready to give this book three stars. But that final punch in the storyline was the saving grace for me and ramped it up to four!
