This book is part of the Will Trent series. I haven’t read any of these books before, so I was reading it as a stand-alone. It worked fine, but I think you would have more connection with the characters if you have read the other books in the series.

Thanks to Pigeonhole for the opportunity to read this book over the course of ten days.

Sara Linton is a successful doctor. You wouldn’t know she had been attacked years ago. When a patient comes into A&E and asks Sara to help catch her attacker, she feels a personal connection. What unfolds is the discovery of a splinter cell of medical professionals who stalk, abuse and often murder women, carrying out horrific attacks. Special Agent Will Trent and his partner Faith get involved and try to unmask the attackers.

There are a lot of parts in the book that are uncomfortable to read. The descriptions of the assaults are often graphic.

I thought the book was quite long. It did hold my interest but at times it felt like it dragged a bit. This could have been because of the long chapters. Some parts felt quite clumsy to read and didn’t flow so well.

There were a few parts I thought were a little unrealistic. Will goes undercover and no one works out who he is, despite knowing Sara and the fact she’s engaged to Will.

For some reason I didn’t really warm to Sara’s character at all and I preferred Will. I liked Faith but the way she babied her son, who’s in his twenties, was annoying. Constantly calling him ‘bub’ and trying to shield him from everything when he’s clearly mature enough to make his own decisions.

The ending was fine and everything is conveniently tied up.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this book. I think if you’ve read the other books in the series you’ll like this one.
