After That Night by Karin Slaughter is based around the character of Sara Linton, a medical examiner, who has appeared in previous books by this author, however this is a standalone novel.
Fifteen years earlier, Sara was subjected to a brutal attack following a night out. She has rebuilt her life and is working in the Emergency Department when a young woman is rushed in. During her treatment, it becomes apparent that her assault is linked to the earlier attack on Sara.
I haven’t read many of Slaughter’s books but I found this compelling. It really isn’t for the faint hearted as she pulls no punches and in places was difficult to read.
Having said all that, it was brilliantly plotted and written, with a gripping storyline which kept me hooked from the beginning.
