After That Night, which sees two characters from the Karin Slaughter canon - Dr. Sara Linton and Special Agent Will Trent - join forces to investigate the suspected attack on Dani Cooper (and, subsequently, similar attacks on other vulnerable young women), is not for the easily offended or triggered, with the central cast collectively possessing the most colourful vocabulary imaginable as well as graphic descriptions of rape/sexual assault contained within the narrative.

That said, all of the above plus the detailed description of medical and police procedure adds several layers of realism and is indicative of how well researched the story is, while the short sentence writing style ensures that events take place at a pace enough to keep the reader hooked over 400+ pages. Throw in the intrigue of threatening text messages and online chat rooms, as well as chapters which read like scenes/episodes from a TV series/movie and suspects that you want to see nailed by those in authority, and you have a near perfect piece of crime fiction.
