As someone who reads a lot of YA fantasy, fairytale retellings and the occasional children’s book, it’s fair to say this is as far from my type as a book can be. So it goes without saying that I haven’t read the previous 10 GBI special agent Will Trent novels.

That being said, I approached After That Night with an open mind.

The storytelling is good, the characters are well developed, and the details of the crime seem legit (with my very limited knowledge - based mostly on The Bill from the late 90s).

From the opening text exchange, the atmosphere is creepy and all too familiar to women who are coming of age in a world of unsolicited pics and swiping left.

I wouldn’t go on to read another of Slaughter’s novels based on this one - hence only 4* - they’re just not my thing (the few I have read of Harlan Coben and TM Logan feel very samey)
But for the people who like this genre it seems like a safe bet.
