Sarah Linton was sexually assaulted on a night out fifteen years ago when she was a medical student. She can no longer have children as a result of what happened that night. She has moved on from the incident in the present and is now a successful doctor who is engaged to Will Trent. She is working the night shift at the ER when Dani, a teenage girl who had been savagely attacked and was in critical condition, arrives. She informs Sarah that she was drugged and sexually assaulted. She dies as a result of her wounds. Will is in charge of the inquiry into her death.
