I love a Karin Slaughter book and there are so many to choose from, all different and written beautifully. I had read a few from Sara Linton series and accidentally one from the Will Trent series which made me want to read them in order, stops a few spoilers as the series progresses. I made an exception for this one and glad I did.
Whilst the past is revisited it can be read as a standalone as the writing is done in such a way that nothing of the now is confusing if you haven't read the others.
As always, 'After that night' has clearly been thoroughly researched and whilst harrowing in places it is not gratuitous. It leads the reader down a dark path but it is necessary to get to the heart of the story.
Will and Sara are characters that you can root for but each with their own flaws which makes them human. The great writing makes you care for them as well as making sure the victim receives the justice they deserve.
