This is my first book by Karin Slaughter and I feel I would have benefitted by reading the previous books in the series nevertheless it did work as a stand alone book for me.
Sara is in court giving evidence as she was the doctor in charge when a young girl died , after telling Sara she had been brutally attacked.
Sara vows to bring the perpetrator to justice but this means the emergence of difficult unwanted memories of her own similar attack fifteen years previously.
It is soon apparent that the past can never be truly hidden even if that’s what you desperately want.
This book is emotionally powerful. It’s not an easy read with may have disturbing triggers for some readers but these are explored with exceptional insight. The trauma experienced by victims of violence is far reaching and long lasting and Sara’s story demonstrates this.
I was totally gripped by this book. A first class suspense thriller and I’m now on a mission to read more in the series.
