I started reading Karin Slaughter’s books when the very first one came out over twenty years ago, and I don’t think I’ve missed one since because they just keep getting better! Whilst I gave up on a lot of other crime writers from that time because it felt like they were just putting out the same stuff again and again, Slaughter’s books are still every bit as original and exciting as they were decades ago, and this one is no exception!

Reuniting the reader with Sara Linton and Will Trent (along with lots of other familiar faces), this feels like one of the most personal and moving of Slaughter’s novels as we explore a horrifying and traumatic event from Sara’s past, which may be connected to the brutal rapes of women now. It’s a tough read, especially as a woman, and it feels like there’s a powerful message about not getting too comfortable since the Me Too movement and better awareness of the risks women face. This book reminds us that there are still plenty of monsters who will take advantage of women out there, but thankfully Sara and Will are always smarter 👏

This is another addictive, read-in-one-sitting and hang on every word story from the queen of thrillers, and I just can’t wait for whatever’s next already!
