Any book that has talking dogs in it has me hooked right away. Add to that the names of the dogs; Lord Voldemort, Rabbit and Pretzel and I want to read on. I like the way in which the text it set out. This is very clever as it means you read the pages quicker, which gives you the impression of reading a lot very quickly and that helps get you hooked too. The alternating worlds are intriguing and make me want to know how both worlds evolve and do they really differ that much, especially at the end. I like the cover of the book very much, it reflects the two worlds and how just a slight difference can result in a huge change. The chapter names are hilarious and/or intriguing: The Egg Yolk of Misery; Shall We Pretend I Was Never?. My only concern is that the book is clearly quirky. I like quirky to a certain degree, but too much and it just becomes annoying. I have only ever read one other book by e. lockhart which I found to be quite original for a YA book and I did enjoy very much. This one appears to be very different, although hopefully just as good.
