All the ways the world can end, written by Abby Sher is a must read for teens. This book really focuses on Eleanor 'Lenny' Rosenthal-Hermann, our main character, and the relationships she forms with her family and friends and how this is effected by her dads cancer.
The dynamic of Lenny and her dad really changes throughout the story due to him try downplay the severity of the cancer. He really doesn't want to be a burden towards her and doesn't want to take over her life with his condition. The way this relationship is shown is so realistic and what I imagine would happen in a real situation.
Lenny's relationship with her mum (otherwise known as Sargent Nutbags) is really interesting and intense. Her mum has such a fear for the cancer that she goes to the extreme to try and fix it. But she also consumes her life with work, trying to possibly forget about all the issues in the family. But her way of coping causes more conflict and resentment from Lenny. Making you the reader, feel so unsure about how to feel towards the mum.
The character of Lenny is so genuine and real. she is an imperfect and relatable. You want her to succeed and that's what I personally think makes an amazing book.
this book is a quick read and only took me a day to read. It may be a quick story but All the ways the world can end leaves a big impact.
looking forward to reading more books by Abby Sher.
