Having read Chris Whittaker’s latest book, We begin at the end, I decided to read the two previous books.
All The Wicked Girls is set in the ‘Bible Belt’ in Southern USA where religion is a big part of society. A black cloud symbolising evil hangs over the town for the whole of the story threatening disaster and building tension as the police and victims families try to discover who has abducted seven missing teenage girls.
The dialogue and style of writing may not appeal to everyone - it certainly took me a while to be comfortable with it.
There are a lot of characters introduced in the first 100 pages with little character development to explain who they are and how they relate to each other initially.
I can understand why one of the book’s reviewers has said that she read the book a second time ‘to savour what she missed’.
I loved the main characters Summer, Raine and Noah and also the flawed police chief, Black.
This is one of those books, the reader continues to think about after they have finished reading it.
