My fear threshold may be lower than other reviewers. When younger, if I found myself in scary situations outside my comfort zones I would imagine hearing the helicopter blades - reminding me of the opening sounds of Crimewatch as if imagining my current situation leading to a regretful posthumous appearance.

The opening scene of this book brought me up sharp and made me think back to youthful capers that expose you to dangers, making me thankful that I had not grown up in the age of online dating. The “date” facing a likely painful and torturous death filled me with fear; she was listening on hearing the captor booking his next victim.

Meanwhile the story moves forward with more normal life. We follow the narrative of whom we expect to be the next date victim. She’s giving online dating a go because she’s lost her partner to a rival, sadly her cousin who is almost her duplicate.

I enjoyed the regular life narrative but I think the online date killer will keep me awake at night. Not my cup of tea sharing reading time with psychologically disturbed maniacs.
