I really enjoyed this book. It started off slowly but then drew me in. It is the first Michael Ridpath novel I have read ant it certainly won't be the last.
Alistair Cunningham is an elderly man who wakes up in hospital with almost complete amnesia. He can remember things from a while back but not recent events. Clemence is a young girl who is a family friend. Left at Uni over Christmas she agrees to look after Alistair.
Looking after Alistair in his remote cottage in Scotland Clemence finds a hidden manuscript. It tells the story of the murder of Clemence grandmother and Alistair appeared to be the killer. The novel then follows Clemences efforts to find out the truth.
The story twists and turns and the ending is a surprise.
