This book is so unique in its standing within the dystopian genre. Chris Beckett gives a shattering insight into the possible dark future that lies ahead of America, one century or less into the future. He very aptly captures the devastating effects that climate change will have on the planet and on our lives as a whole. It is so scary to think that all of this destruction is by our own hands and could be potentially avoided if we alter how we treat the earth. Terrifyingly, this post apocalyptic world resembles ours closely in terms of its back drop of fake news and intolerance of others. In this terrifying and morally dark world, Beckett does not challenge us with the question of “what if” this happens but scarily, when? This was an intensely gripping and suspenseful read which led to me reflecting deeply on the world around me which I definitely think is the mark of a great book!
