This book starts of in the middle of a storm in America. This storm kills many people and some are lucky to survive. One family ended up with a car going through there house and they only just survived being flattened beneath it. After this storm many people leave there homes and move further inland in the hope of a safer future. This then causes many problems as areas in America are overcrowded and do not have enough resources to survive.

One of the characters in the book is a type of reporter and she ends up interviewing someone who believes that they should help all people that had suffered due to the storm.
