This book is very topical, covering the impact of global warming, manipulative politicians, and raising tensions between races and classes in America-there's even a wall on the Mexican border. Part of the concern for me from reading the book is that you can very much imagine this being the world in the next century or so, and for the most part it is not a good place.

What did permeate throughout the chapters though, is the story of human nature, how at heart we worry about the same things, want the same things, and how we can be hopeful and kind even at the worse of times. I believed there was hope within this world, and that could be seen as a "call to arms" for readers today.

There are a few areas that jarred with me a bit; occasionally the characters use a random (I'm presuming Mexican/Spanish) word, which for me stopped the flow as it seemed so out of place, and a few of the technological developments seemed perhaps too advanced.

Overall I found it an impressive read, and I would search out for the author 'S other works.
